December 26, 2010

Here are some miscellaneous pictures. On the beach in Old Saybrook, a composite we may use for a future art project, and this year's Christmas card with a rustic caricature of Lucy.

A Little Snack from the Garden

Lucy has discovered the pumpkins that spontaneously erupted in our compost pile. She doesn't seem to digest the seeds, if you know what I mean, so we're expecting to see pumpkin vines next year in all sorts of interesting places.
Just to give you a sense of how big Lucy has become, this is a 10-pound pumpkin.
Just kidding.
Sort of.

Dog and Master

Here's a shot to show you how big Lucy is. This morning she stepped (not jumped) up onto our bed. It won't be long before we saddle her up and take grandson Evan for a ride.

No Fence for Her Tongue

Lucy has lost all of her teeth between her front canines and her molars, so her giant tongue won't stay in her mouth. Here she is wondering why all of her teeth aren't called canines.

Pretty in Pink

Sadly, we all knew this was going to happen someday.

Lucy's Growing Up

Just a couple shots of Lucy in the yard showing her progress as a proud, well-behaved dog. Ironically, while I'm writing this she's eating a whole scatter rug that we have in her crate.

A Visit with Peaches

Lucy met Peaches the poodle on June 29. At some point Lucy realized she might be able to defend herself against "scary" Peaches, at which point Peaches continued to just stand there.

A Bigger Crate

We traded with Merry the breeder for a bigger crate. Dad refinished it and put it outside to dry. Lucy just walked over, laid down in the tray, and went to sleep. She now loves her crate.

Pool

Wow! I can walk around in this big dog dish! Lucy frantically runs in and out of her pool and "digs" the water.

Walk in the Lower Field

Lucy urges Mommy along after a walk in the lower field. Thanks to someone Dad works with, we've learned that when Lucy bites too hard, we screech like another puppy in the litter to train her to be more gentle.

Heather

So, Lucy has discovered that when you live here, you have to participate in all the "womanly" things. Here Lucy is patronizing Mommy by pretending to take an interest in Mommy's heather harvest.

12 Weeks Old

After 2 weeks at home, Lucy is 12 weeks old and we have formalized her adoption from the Higganum Lab Rescue. We're happy to report that all of her brothers and sisters have now been adopted and look forward to a reunion sometime.
She has giant paws and gangly legs, and we expect her to look much like a black Weimaraner. Sometimes we think we should have named her Bambi or Trigger.
She was the star of the puppy training class last night, easily the most intelligent dog there (but we might be biased!)

Memorial Day

Lucy played with "nephew" Evan for about 30 seconds on Memorial Day, then went back to eating rocks. After everyone left, Lucy stretched out in the TV room.

Day 1

This is the first day with Lucy, who lives with her adoptive parents in Higganum, CT. She is part of a litter of six Weimaraner / Black Lab crosses from the Outer Banks in North Carolina. She looks black, but in the right light you can see some brown. We took her for a little walk on her first night home (in the baby stroller).
